Day 20 - Presenting....The Slab

We thought it may not happen today because of the rain...but the team came through.

The slab was laid today. I drove passed whilst the tradies were making thier final touches. I'll let the pictures speak for themselves.

    1. Hi, thanks for your comment. It is all very exciting!! We loved The Franklin design but it wouldn't fit on our block (the width was slightly over). Will check out your blog and look I look forward to following your progress. All the best.

  2. Hi there,

I am new to this whole world of blogging and have spent the entire day reading these as we are at the very, very early stages on embarking on a Metricon build.

Our land will not be released for approximately 9 months therefore I have plenty of time to research!

We have almost decided on the Whittaker 50 but are exploring other options atm as the price seems to be heading more north than we had hoped as of course we want all of the bells and whistles! We would actually be happy with the 41 however the rooms are too small. Are you able to give me any tips if they were happy to extend on the house at all to be able to increase the bedroom sizes?

I really like the Franklin too!

I look forward to following your journey, I have picked up so many tips already.

    1. Hi Debbie,

Thanks for your comment. The Whittaker 50 is huge. Great use of space though. We did investigate the 50 but once we weighed up the costs with all our proposed upgrades it was way over our budget. Plus the thought of cleaning all the bathrooms!! We went with the 45 sq but we did increase the size of the family room and outdoor area. You would need to check but I am sure you could increase the size of the bedrooms...Metricon would just need to flag it with Engineering. We were lucky enough to go through a Whittaker that was near completion and we noticed that the owners had extended the side of the family room area to be in line with the kitchen...hope that makes sense. All in all I believe our home is now 48sq. The other way around reducing the cost of the 50sq Whittaker it is to take out one or two of the ensuites upstairs. Metricon should bring the price down...if anything you will have bigger bedrooms. Again we did love the Franklin. I loved the outdoor area, unfortunately the width of the block was small. So far so good with Metricon. They have been great to work with. If you are building in Melbourne and building a Signature or Designer home you will come across Leo. He is awesome! He helps customers through the design phase - kitchen set up and cabinetry. Best part of our experience so far. If I can help with anything just send me a message. Good luck.
